A Clippers Mystery

Earlier this weekend, several news outlets, including the Association’s NBA-TV, reported that Vinny Del Negro, the current head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, would be meeting with Clippers’ owner Donald T, Sterling to discuss his future with the franchise. Del Negro’s contract with the Clippers expires June 30th.

Earlier today (3:42pm ET), Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reported that was sitting courtside at the Memphis/San Antonio Western Conference Finals.

I asked Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles what we should take from DTS being in San Antonio.

Her response?
“It’s very odd. Spawning all sorts of theories right now.”

Hmmm…

I should mention that, as yet, Vinny Del Negro has yet to meet with Mr. Sterling despite supposedly having that appointment to do so.

And so it goes.

Memories, Part 1

Now that the Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets have failed to make the Elite Eight in the NBA Championship tournament, I’ll be hard pressed to stay engaged in the rest of the playoffs. However, now would be a good time to start reflecting back on some of the great things I’ve run across during the 2012-13 NBA campaign.

The award goes to Dave D’Alessandro of the Newark Star-Ledger who, when writing about Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets, called Williams out saying that D-Will was…

…one evening gown shy of a diva.

Bledsoe for Starting PG

My name is Mike Murray and I approved this message.

I love Chris Paul and, of course, I’d like him to re-sign. However, I’m not willing to have Chauncey Billups on board for another two years. I think Chauncey is a cool dude, but his play doesn’t warrant two more years. He’s played 42 out of 148 games since signing with the Clippers. Compare that to Eric Bledsoe who, while also injured, played 116 of 148.

Assuming Vinny Del Negro doesn’t return, Bledsoe should blossom under a new coach. If CP3 were willing to play alongside Bledsoe (instead of Billups), I wouldn’t have a problem. However, CP3 seems hell-bent on getting rid of Bledsoe and playing alongside Billups.

One only has to look at the Brooklyn Nets and ask themselves is it worth $21 million annually to have a diva PG. Veterans are OK and necessary. However, veterans need to produce and not be hanging around to provide comfort and solace to a veteran PG.

Paul’s post-series press conference and exit interview were understandable in one respect. However, he is not beyond responsibility for how the season turned out. If he wants to go somewhere else where he thinks he can “win”, then he should go ahead and go there. I’m pretty proficient with travel arrangements; I can help him out.

I know almost everyone will disagree, but I need to see more from Paul before I’ll feel comfortable about his continued presence.

And so it goes.

Update: Eric Bledsoe

NEW YORK (Mikeylito.com) – Thursday, Eric Bledsoe scored 15 points in the first of two rehabilitation games for the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA’s D-League.  Bledsoe, a point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers, was optioned earlier in the day by the Clippers to the Jam to play in the intervening two D-League contests before returning to the Clippers on Sunday for evaluation.

Bledsoe played nearly 19 minutes for the Jam shooting 6 for 11 from the field, one a three-pointer, and two of four from the free-throw line.  He also contributed seven assists, two defensive rebounds and a steal, while committing two personal fouls and two turnovers.

The Jam defeated the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders, 108-95.  

The Jam next play Friday in Bakersfield against the Canton Charge.
